Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities discussed prospects for cultural and scientific cooperation with French academic institutions in a recent visit to Paris, France. The initiative is a strategic part of its vision to strengthen partnerships with like-minded institutions abroad.
The delegation that visited the French capital was headed by His Excellency Khalifa Mubarak Al Dhaheri, the university’s chancellor. In particular, the delegation met with representatives of the Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO), which was founded in Paris in 1795 AD. They met with Professor Jean-François Hochet, president of the institute, along with members of the faculty.
The discussions between the two parties focused on priorities for academic cooperation, including receiving students in joint summer schools and conducting specialized scientific research in Eastern civilizations. The delegation then inspected the institute’s facilities and learned about its academic programs. On the sidelines of the visit, the delegation met with graduate students at the institute and had a conversation with them about the importance of studying civilizations, and the UAE’s cultural contributions to promoting the values of tolerance, coexistence, and human brotherhood.
The delegation from Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities also visited the French Institute of Islamic Studies and met with the institute’s president, His Excellency Dr. Pierre Kaye. The meeting discussed enhancing academic and research cooperation between the two sides, organizing research and scientific courses for French imams and students, in addition to organizing a scientific conference entitled – Religion, Science and Ethics – in cooperation with Sorbonne University.
The two parties also discussed the importance of providing academic libraries with basic resources and references that support students and researchers, and providing books and periodicals specialized in Islamic sciences and human thought, in a way that enhances the academic environment and enriches the scientific content of the French Institute of Islamic Studies.
His Excellency Dr. Khalifa Al Dhaheri confirmed that the delegation’s visit to Paris achieved its goals in paving the way for broader areas of cooperation with French academic institutions, especially those interested in studying the history of civilizations, Islamic studies, and human thought in general.
He said that the next phase will witness the development of strategies for the enhancement of scientific and academic cooperation with the French side, which has shown great readiness to strengthen cultural and scientific ties, and exchange experiences and knowledge with the Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities.
